As a mom with 2 children 3 & under, I plan
my vacations with my children in mind. How long (or short) is
the drive, how family friendly is the lodging, are there good
small child dining options, and are there fun activities for
the baby/toddler/preschooler set. Some of you may have small
children who are fine in any situation, but mine are pretty spunky
and particular, so child-friendly planning for our vacations
is a MUST for us!
A note: There are a TON of sites with information

list those - so this section has more of the natural/eco travel
within a 4-5 hour radius of Madison!

Trillium is located on our
family farm. In 1984, guests first visited our organic
family farm to enjoy the comforts and privacy of a farm
cottage. Trillium features two cozy private cottages tucked
into the hills of the Kickapoo Valley in southwestern Wisconsin.
Our family farm is located in the Hidden Valleys area of
southwestern Wisconsin. Since 1980, our organic family
farm is where our children (and now our grandchildren)
harvest 35 acres of organic crops & hay each summer.
We also raise cows and calves, chickens and geese, sheep,
pet rabbits and many friendly farm cats.
Trillium farm is half woods and half fields. There are
many places to walk to see wildlife including deer, wild
turkeys, owls, songbirds, foxes, pheasants and more. Guests
are welcome to “visit” the variety of farm
livestock and help feed the animals.

The old schoolhouse desks
are replaced by modern, comfortable furniture in the newly
restored Wilson Schoolhouse. Where students once studied,
you can now relax in comfort surrounded by Wisconsin hills,
just a mile from the beautiful upper Mississippi River.
The Wilson school was built in 1917 and functioned as
a one-room school until 1965. It was recently restored
and elegantly furnished to retain the "open" atmosphere
of the original schoolhouse. It still maintains much of
its original character and charm with the original slate
blackboard and school desks.
