Gardening with
children is an exciting way to expose them to nature, how
things grow, and to get their
fingers in the dirt. By caring for plants they can see
cause and effect, learn about weather and the seasons,
and enjoy the fruit (or vegetables!) of their labor! We
start veggies and herbs from seed in our basement every
April- my preschooler LOVES to water and watch. Most items
are selected by me, but he can pick from the catalog one
or two items to grow 'all by himself'. Last year we had
a great sunflower house, and this year we are planning
a climbing pea tipi!

MACSAC - The Madison Area Community Supported
Agriculture Coalition promotes and supports local Community
Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms that provide organically
grown produce to people throughout southern Wisconsin.
MACSAC coordinates community and grower education programs
about the benefits of locally, sustainably grown foods
and operates the Partner Shares Program which raises funds
to subsidize CSA memberships for households on a limited
income.
With a CSA share, families can visit their
farms for festivals, upicks and special events and see
where their food comes from!
